Or maybe I’m just going through culture shock. But my mom sure was amused as we walked through Costco.
- Pint-sized glasses of water (rather than half-cups)
- Huge roads (without gaijin traps)
- Casual clothes (I don’t feel like such a slob whenever I’m outside. In fact, I feel nice!)
- Dryers (HOLY CRAP, I love them.)
- Big washing machines
- And REAL-SIZED OVENS
- Aerosol cooking spray (especially of the olive oil variety)
- Not having to duck under doorways
- CENTRAL HEAT, OMG (I’m frolicking around the house in a mere light zip-up. This is BIG NEWS guys.)
- Corny Christmas movies on the Hallmark channel
- And, I guess, my family. They’re kinda cool.
It’s been a good week! Still crazy excited for New Years. I wish everybody epically happy, or at least stress-free, holidays. <3
HAPPY HOLIDAYS Y’ALL.

When we worked for the UN in Geneva, these are the things I missed:
1.) Stores open after 6 p.m.
2.) American clothing sizes (The French-Swiss women have no thighs)
3.) Having pancakes at restaurants (found one place but they would only give you ONE pancake — and then chastised us for wanting more)
4.) Closet space
5.) Family and friends (this was pre-Skype or VOI so phone calls were very expensive)
6.) Paying bills by mail (we had to go to the post office to pay our bills in person — weird)
7.) American TV
BUT…here are the things I miss about Geneva
1.) Irradiated milk and eggs that can sit out on a shelf
2.) Bakeries on every street corner
3.) Better falafel than we’ve been able to find anywhere in the US
4.) A city that was completely walkable (or accessible easily by bus)
5.) Easy access to Germany, France and Italy for quick vacations
ENJOY YOUR TIME IN THE STATES, KAT!!! Hope you have a wonderful holiday.
