Why does garlic taste so good but smell so bad?
I don’t care that the Daily Show made fun of it, the post office ads are kinda right: hand-written letters are pretty much amazing. (Much loff to the Tank!)
I’m trying to decide if I’m an introvert or an extrovert. Maybe I’m a freaky combination of BOTH. I AM ROVERT-ENSTEIN!
But I’m not sure it’s important either way.
We’re officially at the point in Japan where my fingers are only warm when I’m in horrendously overheated supermarkets. This is not conducive to working on books.
However, hot soup on a freezing day is like heaven.
I don’t understand how hair waves naturally. Doesn’t hair come from dead cells? Or is that fingernails? I know it’s dust, definitely.
WHAT IF WHAT IF the next cat you saw stared at you for FIVE MINUTES. Do you think it’d be Professor McGonnagal?
I’d like to see the viewing statistics on the State of the Union address. Also, when was the last time a President said the State of the Union is not-so-very good chums, sorry? Probably not since television. Which is why I kinda appreciated the Republican rebuttal, in a “Wow, you’re depressing me” way.
Today I stayed at school until 7pm (a little over two hours past the end of my workday). I told the teachers it was because I had a lot of work, which is true, though usually I do that work at home or at the Culture Hall. Mostly I stayed two hours past school because I don’t have to pay for the heating when I’m there.
I’m tempted to fall asleep under my kotatsu. Can’t spread out that far. Decisions, decisions.
No, SERIOUSLY, my hands are so crazy cold.
Gonna make meat pies this weekend. Pretty excited about it.
I have no idea how to make meat pies. I assume I grill up some meat with some veggies/potatoes and stick it in a calzone-esque pie crust? No?
I guess I could google it.
I’m trying to decide if ALBATROSS needs beta readers. The problem is two-fold. 1) I hoped to send this to Agent Sara in the beginning of February, which means I’d need it read in a week, which is just not gonna work for most folks. 2) I hope beta readers say, “YEAH, THIS IS FABULOUS YOU ARE FAB 2, 4 SHO.” Which means they’ll actually say “…it still needs work,” and this will be my face:
But of course I’ll fix things. That’s not the point.
The point is, I’m cold right now. And I’m a sleepy bear ’cause it’s past my bedtime.
Maybe I should just take a day off from editing? Right! BACK TO STUDYING.
I’VE GOT IT. I’ll send it to my mom? No. I think she’s busy. Hum.
Anywho.
Gads, I want to eat the chocolate orange on my kotatsu, but I already brushed my teeth for the night. Gosh, my life is hard.
Any random thoughts, Minions? Some things that have been stumping you lately? I taught my students why the sky is blue this week. It’s fun trying to explain physics in English to folks who don’t really speak English. Maybe it worked?

^I think I have a web-crush on this blog post. Seriously though, this whole post is the best collection of random thoughts I’ve read in awhile.
UHH where to start. I know winter’s always very cold for you, so that’s a given. your poor fingers
I’m not sure why hair curls. the hair you see is dead, yes, but under the scalp it’s still alive. I’m pretty sure it has to do with texture and elasticity and moisture. like curly hair is naturally drier than straight hair. super straight hair is usually baby fine. super curly hair is usually super coarse. when moisture is pulled from the hair after shower, it tightens/springs/coils. that’s how I picture it working at least. not an expert here.
ALBATROSS? hm. I think with the CPs you have it’s probably pretty solid, and Agent will probably pick up on anything else. but if you’re worried about making sure it’s perfect for Agent, but send it off to a few ppl on the contingency they’ll read it within a week? you could ask on twitter “anyone want to read my current WIP with a week deadline?” and send it to 5 people or so (assuming 1-2 won’t get back to you in a week).
things stumping me this week… probably 1) why if I have absolutely NOTHING to do all week my sleeping schedule basically reverses. I’ll stay up until morning/noon-ish, wake up in the evening. I’ve been staying up for periods of 24-hours or more often, too. I’m trying to figure out whether or not this is just my “natural” sleep schedule or what. CAN that be natural? 2) details of SNI are stumping me, like what to do to it to make it epic. I always aim for epic. 3) is it worth roughly plotting SECONDARY 2 & 3 to get creative juices flowing? biggest reason I want to do this is to seriously create foreshadowing. but idk. it also scares me to think that if I manage to sell book 1 that I’d have to come up with 2 & 3, and given the bumpy ride I had with 1, will I be able to do it and make it cohesive? yeah… scary shit. 4) ugh I want to finish this book and get it out there so bad.
Thanks for the information about curly hair! That’s interesting.
And also for the advice about ALBATROSS. I’m glad I took it!
1) I think most people are either morning people or night people. You’re a night person, which means you’re generally inclined to be more productive at night. I think that’s fine, although it’s probably not healthy for extended periods of time. The body likes to be around sunlight, generally speaking, in order to stay efficient and happy.
2) Add ninjas.
3) Uh…I dunno. If it feels more like pulling nails than fun, I’d say give it a rest for awhile. You can always plot later if the book gets picked up by an agent and then sneak in edits as you prepare it for submission.
4) I know EXACTLY how you feel. <3
